If your blood sugars are higher than normal but not quite high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes, then you have prediabetes. You may not realize that you have this condition as pre diabetes symptoms can vary among people and some may not even have any symptoms.
According to the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention National Diabetes Statistics Report estimates that 37% of adults over the age 20 years and more than 50% of those older than 65 years had pre diabetes in 2009-2012 which translates to about 86 million adults with prediabetes in United States.The world wide prevalence of prediabetes in 2010 was estimated to be 343 million which is nearly 7.8% of the world population. That’s a lot of people among us!
